Dear Alumni, Colleagues, and Friends of the Center,

As the vibrant colors of fall begin to transform the landscape around us, excitement is building for our fast-approaching White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate 2024 Conference, to take place Friday, Nov. 8, in Charlottesville. This year our conference theme is “Reimagining Commercial Real Estate: Technology, Design, and Markets.” The daylong program will bring together a remarkable group of industry leaders, UVA alumni, faculty, staff, and students to offer invaluable insights, forward-thinking perspectives, and networking opportunities for all. Check out the conference website for our detailed program and outstanding speaker lineup – and register today! We encourage you to arrive on Thursday, Nov. 7, to attend our Welcome Reception at the Forum Hotel from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. (Hotel and logistical information is detailed on the event website.)

Please enjoy our fall 2024 newsletter, including a recap and photos from our inaugural alumni receptions on the West Coast, in Santa Monica and San Francisco, CA. These events presented a fantastic opportunity to reconnect with UVA alumni and friends of the Center and celebrate their achievements. We are also thrilled to share highlights and pictures from our recent two-day student trek to Washington, DC, and Northern Virginia. As always, the trek provided our students with a unique opportunity to explore the dynamic real estate landscape, engage with professionals in the field, and participate in a networking reception with alumni and industry leaders across the capital region.

We also want to draw attention to Professor Michael Gallmeyer, who was honored with the 2024 All-University Teaching Award this spring. As the Consumer Bankers Association Eminent Professor of Commerce at the McIntire School, Mike was nominated by his peers and selected by a UVA committee in celebration of his significant contributions to the University’s teaching mission. We extend our heartfelt thanks to Mike for his outstanding service and continuing commitment as Interim Academic Director of the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate. His hard work and dedication have made a profound impact, and we are grateful for his continued leadership.

We hope you enjoy reading about the latest exciting Center-led activities, real estate news from around the University, and upcoming opportunities to engage with us and with each other. Your continued support and involvement are what make our community so special. See you next month at the conference!

Warm regards,

Keven Lindemann
