What is your motivation for pursuing an M.S. in MIT?

I will never stop wanting to learn. This program has a great reputation, and the coursework is directly relevant to the work I execute on a daily basis. I felt this program would help make me a more impactful leader within my organization and with the teams that I manage.

What led you to UVA’s M.S. in MIT Program?

Serendipity. I saw a post on LinkedIn and asked for information. The following week, I was at a final–off site in Charlottesville for a fellowship I was finishing–and the program leads took us to McIntire to sit in on two private lectures from the professors. It felt like a sign that I should apply.

What is your favorite and/or the most valuable aspect(s) of the residencies?

The energy that both the professors and my classmates bring to those days. It creates an environment that inspires me to be fully engaged and more even more driven.

How has the M.S. in MIT Program complemented your work experience?

The coursework is very substantive and directly related to my day-to-day tasks overseeing a complex IT program.

What is the most practical concept or skill you have learned so far?

Shifting my perspective from the notion that technology will drive our solutions vs. focusing on the business need and business strategy to dictate the technology and the solution.

How have you been able to integrate the program into your professional responsibilities and personal commitments?

If you are adept with time management, it’s very feasible. I typically work 60+ hours per week, and even with two kids and other obligations, I am able to manage it.

What is your best piece of advice for prospective students?

Go for it. You won’t be sorry.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I love to travel, cook/bake, go to museums/concerts, play sports, and spend time with family and friends.
