What is your motivation for pursuing an M.S. in MIT?

My decision to pursue an M.S. in the Management of IT degree stemmed from a desire to challenge myself academically and professionally. As I looked to move into more senior management roles in my industry, I knew this program would provide the tools and knowledge necessary to lead effectively in a fast-paced, technology-driven environment.

What led you to UVA’s M.S. in MIT Program?

The program’s content aligned perfectly with my career goals, offering the skills and knowledge I needed to advance in my field. Additionally, the prestige of attending a renowned institution like UVA gave me confidence that the program would be well-structured and highly impactful.

What is your favorite and/or the most valuable aspect(s) of the residencies?

One of my favorite and most valuable aspects of the residences has been the opportunity to connect with peers and instructors in an immersive environment that fosters collaboration and deeper learning. The recent study-abroad trip to Mendoza was a standout experience as well, as it provided a unique opportunity to apply program concepts in a real-world setting and build lasting relationships with my cohort. These in-person engagements have added tremendous value to my overall experience in the MSMIT program.

How has the M.S. in MIT Program complemented your work experience?

While I’ve always been strong on the technical side, the MSMIT program has helped me better understand and navigate the business aspects of my industry. It has taught me how to align technical solutions with company objectives and communicate their value to non-technical stakeholders.

What is the most practical concept or skill you have learned so far?

The most practical skill I have gained from the MSMIT program is the ability to effectively connect technical concepts and projects to overarching business objectives. This program has deepened my understanding of how to align IT initiatives with organizational goals, ensuring that technology decisions drive measurable value.

How have you been able to integrate the program into your professional responsibilities and personal commitments?

Module 1 was definitely a challenge at first, as it took some time to adjust to the program’s demands and balance them with my professional responsibilities and personal commitments. However, once I recognized the level of time commitment required and began dedicating regular time to meet with my team, I was able to find my rhythm. Establishing a routine and staying organized have been key to successfully integrating the program into my life while still fulfilling my work and personal obligations.

What is your best piece of advice for prospective students?

Take full advantage of the abundant opportunities to network, collaborate, and refine your skills. The more you engage with the program’s resources and connect with your peers, the more you’ll get out of it, both personally and professionally.

What are your interests and hobbies?

When I’m not solving complex IT puzzles, you’ll find me wrangling my 6-year-old daughter, Emerson, who keeps me on my toes far more than any technical problem ever could. I love traveling with my wife and exploring new places together on short weekend getaways. I’m also an avid DIYer, with a passion for woodworking, often tackling ambitious projects that challenge both my patience and skills. My hobbies keep me grounded and entertained as I navigate the chaos of work and life!
