Where are you currently located?

Job title and/or industry:
Information Technology Manager, government
What is your academic background and motivation for pursuing the M.S. in MIT degree?
I graduated from the historically Black college and university of Winston-Salem State University in Winston-Salem, NC. My motivation for pursuing the M.S. in MIT degree is that I wanted a program that aligned with my undergraduate degree, and this program does that perfectly. I also didn’t want to focus on just one area within IT. I like to be exposed to many different concepts and techniques.
What appealed to you the most about the M.S. in MIT Program?
I think the greatest appeal is that it is a one-year program. As a full-time working professional, it’s often hard to find the time to devote to more extended programs. A one-year program from a prestigious institution such as UVA and building a network of industry professionals sounded good to me.
What are you looking forward to or have you enjoyed most so far in the M.S. in MIT Program?
I have enjoyed getting to know the rest of the cohort. This class has such diverse backgrounds that it makes it interesting and entertaining. People help each other out, and everyone wants the other to succeed.
What are your interests and hobbies?
I like to travel and experience different cultures, places, and people.
Where is your favorite place you have traveled?
I have lived in several countries due to the nature of my job, but my favorite place would probably be Barbados. I love the beach and the warm weather.
What is your favorite thing to do during residencies?
I like to catch up with classmates during break time or just before class begins. We see each other over Zoom and in individual team meetings, but you develop a deeper connection when communicating in person.
