What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?

I wanted to build on my science background with strong business skills that will let me bridge the gap between pharmaceutical innovation and real-world impact. My goal is to prepare for a career in healthcare/life sciences consulting or biotech strategy, where I can combine both my science and commerce backgrounds.

What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?

I’m especially excited about Financial Management, Global Strategy and Systems, and Data Analytics. These areas will give me the tools to understand how life sciences companies make key growth, investment, and innovation decisions. On that same note, I am excited about my Frontiers in Biotechnology courses, which will incorporate both my scientific background and newly acquired business acumen.

What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?

The program’s one-year, immersive design, along with the Biotechnology Track, was precisely what I was looking for. I was also drawn to McIntire’s collaborative culture, career support, and the chance to learn alongside classmates from diverse academic backgrounds. Additionally, the unique advantages of the Global Immersion Experience were a significant draw.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?

I’m looking forward to the team-based projects that allow us to learn by doing and push ourselves outside our comfort zones. I’m also excited about expanding my horizons through the Global Immersion Experience at the end of the program.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

I plan to get involved in business and healthcare-focused clubs, where I can connect with peers with similar interests. I’d also like to take advantage of the many networking events and seminars in the biotech space that McIntire offers.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

The Downtown Mall. I’ve heard it’s a great place for restaurants, live music, and experiencing the Charlottesville community outside the classroom.
