What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?
Coming from an actuarial science background, I was eager to broaden my perspective beyond numbers and dive into the strategic and human sides of business. The M.S. in Commerce Program offered the perfect blend of analytical rigor, real-world application, and global context. My goal is to grow into a well-rounded professional who can drive meaningful, data-informed decisions across industries, especially in areas like finance, strategy, and risk. I also hope to deepen my understanding of how business can be used as a force for good in underserved communities.
What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?
I’m particularly excited about courses related to financial decision-making, data analytics, and strategy. I’m also eager to explore electives in sustainability and innovation, areas that align with my interest in climate financing and building resilient business models. I hope to use these tools to bridge the gap between financial opportunity and social impact.
What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?
McIntire stood out to me because of its unique blend of community, academic excellence, and real-world orientation. The one-year structure was a perfect fit for my timeline, but more than that, the focus on integrated learning, cross-functional thinking, and global readiness aligned perfectly with how I want to grow. Every interaction, from staff to students to alumni, has been warm, thoughtful, and inspiring. It felt like a place where I could both thrive and belong.
What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?
I’m most excited to meet my classmates from around the world and learn from their diverse perspectives. I’m also looking forward to immersing myself in case-based learning, connecting with professors, and challenging myself in ways that push me beyond the familiar. And of course, I can’t wait to grow personally and professionally in a place that feels purpose-driven and innovative.
What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?
I’m eager to get involved with initiatives that promote financial literacy, women in business, and international student engagement. I’d love to find spaces where I can continue mentoring or giving back. I also hope to explore opportunities for leadership and collaboration across student government, consulting clubs, or sustainability-focused groups. Additionally, Indian Student Association events!
What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?
I’m especially excited to explore the UVA Lawn and Rotunda; it feels like such a beautiful, historic, and reflective space. I also can’t wait to visit local bookstores, cafés, and scenic trails around Charlottesville that everyone talks about. I’m hoping to find some quiet corners to study and some lively ones to connect with others. I’ve heard Carter Mountain has beautiful sunsets.
