What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?

I love building structures, but my passion lies within curating experiences and emotions within those spaces. I strive to create environments that leave a lasting impact. I believe that gaining a deeper understanding of business through the M.S. in Commerce Program will allow me to leverage this passion more effectively. This program offers the opportunity to build essential business knowledge and soft skills that are critical for leadership and strategic thinking. My goal is to learn how businesses operate and grow so that I can eventually run a successful business of my own that combines creativity, business strategy, and emotional connection to deliver meaningful experiences.

What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?

I’m excited to take GCOM 7160: Brand Management & Strategy, GCOM 7010: Global Strategy and Systems, and GCOM 7250: Product & Project Management. I believe these courses will help me build a deeper understanding of how environments impact people emotionally and how to translate that impact into compelling brand stories and customer value.

What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?

Through networking and campus visits, I had the ability to speak with former ambassadors and alumni of the program. These conversations made McIntire instantly stand out to me. What really set this program apart was its focus on applying what you learn to real-world situations. The integration of the courses play a major role in development. Hearing their stories and seeing the impact the program had on their personal and professional growth confirmed that this is the right environment for me to take the next steps in my career.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?

As I begin the program, I’m most excited about stepping out of my comfort zone. I look forward to expanding my knowledge, developing my problem-solving abilities, learning from my peers, and strengthening my soft skills. I also hope to integrate my undergraduate degree with the learned business concepts to bring a unique perspective to class discussions. Additionally, I look forward to giving back to the program by supporting future students and participating in future McIntire events.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

During my time at McIntire, I look forward to volunteering within the Charlottesville community with organizations like Habitat for Humanity. I’m also excited to join and actively participate in the Black Commerce Student Network (BCSN) at McIntire, as well as UVA’s Women of Character, Honor, and Ambition (WOCHA) organization.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

I’m excited to visit Carter Mountain for fruit picking to enjoy the outdoors and local culture, and to explore Charlottesville’s diverse restaurants. As a creative person, I’m also looking forward to pottery sessions at Pikasso Swig and aerial classes at Fly Dog Yoga. These activities will provide unique ways to express myself and recharge.
