M.S. in Commerce 2023

What appealed to you about the M.S. in Commerce Program?

Education is very important to me. Even during my undergraduate years, I knew that graduate school was something I wanted to pursue in the future. When I graduated, I began working at a children’s literacy nonprofit in Houston. While my liberal arts background gave me a strong foundation to succeed in this role, I realized that I lacked the fundamental knowledge of the business landscape that would help me achieve my future personal and professional goals. The M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA checked all the boxes for me, and I’ve been sold ever since!

What are you looking forward to or have enjoyed most so far in the M.S. in Commerce Program?

I’ve enjoyed getting to know my peers on a deeper, more meaningful level. Each person in the cohort adds value to our class with their diversity of thought, perspective, and personality. Our class has cultivated a culture of mutual respect, collaboration, and friendship. I know the friends I’ve made here at McIntire will remain in my life beyond just my time here at UVA.

What are your academic Interests?

Human capital, organizational behavior, corporate learning and development, and consulting

What clubs and organizations were you involved with during undergrad?

Aggies Read (literacy service organization providing literacy intervention and reading support services to elementary and middle schools in Bryan-College Station), Texas Runners Against Cancer (philanthropic running club)

What are your hobbies?

Running (and trying to convince my MSC cohort friends to run with me!), baking, and reading

Name three places on your bucket list to travel to and why.

Lima, Peru: I LOVE Peruvian food and am fascinated by the indigenous influences in the region.
Vienna, Austria: I grew up watching “The Sound of Music” and admire the history and culture of the country.
Sydney, Australia: It seems like the place that has a little bit of everything–iconic landmarks and natural wonders!

What is your favorite restaurant, coffee shop, or place to visit in Charlottesville?

Inka Grill serves authentic Peruvian food and is very close to Rouss & Robertson Halls. Their beef lomo saltado is top-notch!
