What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?
I decided to pursue the program to switch my career trajectory. I had heard about the prestige surrounding the program and how it prepares you to excel in the business world. I am hoping to build on my already existing skills and create new ones. I also hope to take advantage of using the vast network of McIntire alumni.
What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?
Being on the Finance Track, I am most excited for the M&A course, as well as the Strategy class to better round out my understanding of what makes a business successful.
What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?
I had many friends who had completed the program and spoke with them quite a lot about pursuing the degree to help solidify my decision to join the program. The program not only sets you up for success, but you get to make lifelong connections with your peers and professors that will help serve you for the entirety of your career and life.
What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?
I am excited to get to know the rest of the cohort and to hopefully land a career in the banking world. I cannot wait to have classes with a mix of students from all backgrounds and track designations. While undergrad was fun, you do not have much interaction with people who are pursuing different majors/tracks, and being that I love to always learn new things, I am excited to learn from everyone else and hopefully apply some of the lessons learned to my career and life.
What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?
I am currently working as a Bartender at Lost Saint, and am looking forward to running for a position on the Graduate Commerce Council. I also hope to be able to have some time to take advantage of all the hikes, local restaurants, and bands/shows in the Charlottesville area. There seems to always be something new to do every weekend.
What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?
The Virginian, lots of lore in there and even better memories.
