What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?

I saw a graduate study in commerce as the perfect way to top off my undergraduate degree in engineering. Developing a strong fundamental in business is key to understanding the capital, strategy, and decision-making behind companies and industries, which is invaluable when starting a career. My goals for the program are to strengthen my understanding of business principles and grow my network by connecting with other students and alumni.

What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?

In the fall, I am looking forward to the Global Strategy and Systems course to better understand the organization of companies and strategic decision making. In the spring, I am looking forward to the courses in Project Management, which will build on my background in civil engineering and construction management.

What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?

Growing up in Charlottesville, the strong reputation of the McIntire School and the M.S. in Commerce Program is well known. I have had many friends and peers go through the program and speak highly of their experiences. The accelerated format was also a large factor in my decision, allowing me to gain a strong education and enter the workforce sooner than typical master’s programs.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?

I am most looking forward to the Global Immersion Experience at the end of the program. During my undergrad, studying abroad was one of my favorite memories, and I am excited for another opportunity. I am also looking forward to meeting new students–not just from UVA, but other schools and backgrounds too.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

I am looking forward to spending another year in Charlottesville and getting involved in new and familiar extracurricular activities. I spend a lot of my free time outdoors–hunting, fishing, and playing sports–so I look forward to participating in club/IM sports and groups like Ducks Unlimited and the Fly Fishing club.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

Growing up in Charlottesville I have explored a lot, but one of my favorite places to eat is Riverside Lunch. A local favorite and flat out the best burgers in town!
