What inspired you to pursue graduate study in commerce, and what are your goals for the program?
I was inspired to pursue graduate study in Commerce after realizing my passion for business during my third year at UVA. While I originally majored in Psychology and Sociology with the goal of becoming a clinical psychologist, attending the Career Center’s Consulting & Strategy Night opened my eyes to management, strategy, and human capital consulting and broader business opportunities. From that moment, I began pivoting toward commerce, seeking experiences that would prepare me for a career in management consulting. My goal in the M.S. in Commerce Program is to strengthen my analytical, leadership, and strategic problem-solving skills while positioning myself for a consulting role where I can help organizations deliver people-oriented solutions.
What courses or topics in commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?
I’m most excited to explore courses in strategy, organizational behavior, and global business. With my background in psychology and sociology, I’m fascinated by how human behavior, culture, and organizational dynamics shape business decisions. I’m also eager to learn technical skills in data management and analysis that will allow me to bridge people-centered insights with evidence-based business strategies.
What drew you to the M.S. in Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?
I chose McIntire’s M.S. in Commerce Program because it offers a one-year, intensive pathway to gain a strong business foundation while building on my social science background. The program’s global focus and emphasis on experiential learning were especially appealing, as I want to apply classroom knowledge to real-world problems. It also felt like a natural extension of my UVA undergraduate journey, especially continuing my growth in an environment I already love while preparing for my next chapter.
What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Commerce Program?
I’m looking forward to collaborating and growing together with my ICE teammates, who bring diverse academic and professional backgrounds. I believe learning from each other will be just as valuable as the coursework. I’m also excited to develop hands-on experience through projects and case studies that mirror the kinds of challenges I’ll face in consulting.
What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?
I hope to get involved in VISAS, join the German Club, and continue my work with the Latino Peer Mentoring Program during my final year at UVA. Building on my experiences in fraternity leadership, community building, and student mentoring as an undergrad, I’m excited to keep contributing to the UVA community while also developing new networks and friendships in the program.
What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?
I’m excited to explore the many nature trails and hiking spots around Charlottesville and to make it out to more Sunset Series events at Carter Mountain. I also look forward to discovering more of the local food scene, from the restaurants on the Downtown Mall to hidden gems I haven’t tried yet.
