What inspired you to pursue graduate study in accounting, and what are your goals for the program?
My motivation to pursue the M.S. in Accounting Program stems from my love for the McIntire experience and excitement to improve my financial literacy before I begin my professional career at McKinsey. I was fortunate to have spent my undergrad in UVA’s McIntire School (studying Finance and IT) and had a wonderful, well-rounded experience, so I was eager to stay in the school for my graduate studies. I believe McIntire does an excellent job providing more than enough resources, whether it’s career services or exceptional faculty, to help launch students into their professional career.
What courses or topics in accounting are you most excited to explore during the program?
I’m very excited for my coursework related to data analytics and AI in Accounting due to the relevance to the changing landscape in accounting and finance in the real world. AI is rapidly reshaping the future of business, so my AI and analytics related coursework excites me to harness AI in my own career.
What drew you to the M.S. in Accounting Program at UVA McIntire?
My decision to pursue the M.S. in Accounting Program is driven by my positive undergraduate experience in the B.S. in Commerce Program. I fell in love with the unparalleled McIntire culture and curriculum that have helped me succeed both inside and outside of the classroom. Though I don’t plan to pursue a career directly in accounting, I saw the MSA as the perfect program to help develop my financial literacy and professional toolkit to succeed in management consulting and financial analytics roles. The curriculum is greatly tied to developing both the technical and soft skills that are demanded in the current job market, so I felt that the MSA would serve as a great launchpad into my career.
What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Accounting Program?
As I begin the MSA program, I look forward most to connecting both with my professors and classmates. During my undergraduate time at McIntire, I got a taste of how valuable and willing to help professors are. Many of my professors became mentors who have helped me navigate both my academic and professional goals. Similarly, it is great to have like-minded, motivated classmates around you every day. I’m excited to learn from all of my talented peers and also offer my own perspective when possible, leading to a productive environment.
What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?
I’m planning to invest most of my spare time into the UVA Track &Field and Cross Country teams. I’ve been a distance runner (mile and 5k) for the past several years, and I’m excited to use my last year of eligibility while pursuing the MSA. In undergrad at UVA, I was also a part of class council and consulting.
What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?
I’m excited to try new restaurants on Grounds and across Charlottesville! My time in Charlottesville for my undergraduate degree turned me into a foodie, and I’m excited to keep exploring all the restaurants around the city. A few restaurants on my list are Alley Light, Ten, and Conmole!
