What inspired you to pursue graduate study in accounting, and what are your goals for the program?
When I was in undergrad, I had a full plate, accounting research, internships in biotechnology and investment analysis, leadership in student government, student ambassadors, and being a teaching assistant and even some work in diversity advocacy and local consulting. That taught me how many moving pieces shape an organization, but also how easily the numbers behind those decisions get overlooked or misinterpreted. Accounting drew me in because it demands clarity and integrity, especially in messy environments. My goal for this program is to sharpen those technical skills so I can work in assurance and advisory roles where I bring order and insight to complex business problems. Longer term, I want to combine the analytical discipline of accounting with the broader strategic lens I’ve developed to move into leadership.
What courses or topics in accounting are you most excited to explore during the program?
I’m really looking forward to digging deeper into accounting policy and leadership in the field of accounting.
What drew you to the M.S. in Accounting Program at UVA McIntire?
McIntire stood out because it doesn’t just churn out technically strong accountants, it develops professionals who think really critically about the systems they operate in. That dual focus resonated with me. I was also drawn to the alumni network and recruiting strength, and I knew I wanted a program where the classroom would challenge me and the community would open doors. Charlottesville’s balance of tradition and innovation sealed the deal; it felt like the right environment to take the next leap.
What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Accounting Program?
I’m looking forward to being pushed outside my comfort zone and strengthening my base. I want to be pushed in technical coursework, case studies, or working with peers and building new relationships that build my base. Building relationships with faculty and classmates, and developing the skills to transition smoothly into professional accounting practice, are at the top of my list.
What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?
I’d like to join professional organizations on Grounds, but also community service opportunities where accounting skills directly benefit others, like helping with volunteer tax preparation programs. Beyond that, I’ve always found meaning in mentorship, so I’d like to get involved in peer support roles that connect students across disciplines. On a lighter side, I’d love to explore intramural sports and student-run events, since staying active and connected has always kept me grounded.
What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?
Definitely Carter Mountain Orchard. I grew up in suburban North Carolina, so the chance to combine good food, a hike, and sweeping mountain views in one trip feels like a perfect escape from the intensity of grad school.
