What inspired you to pursue graduate study in accounting, and what are your goals for the program?

I’ve always been fascinated by how accounting can tell the story of a business through numbers. During my undergraduate studies, I discovered how much I enjoy investigating financial data and related events to uncover insights that guide decision-making. My goal for the program is to deepen my technical accounting knowledge, strengthen my analytical skills, and develop my communication and leadership abilities. I also hope to use this year to prepare for the CPA exam and build lasting relationships with my classmates.

What courses or topics in accounting are you most excited to explore during the program?

I’m especially excited to expand my knowledge of audit and assurance, particularly how technology and data analytics are transforming the field. I’m eager to explore how large datasets can be used to detect anomalies, identify risk areas, and improve audit quality and efficiency. The opportunity to combine technical accounting skills with innovative, tech-driven problem-solving feels both challenging and relevant to the future of the profession.

What drew you to the M.S. in Accounting Program at UVA McIntire?

My UVA undergraduate experience made the decision to stay in Charlottesville an easy one. The collaborative learning environment, close relationships with professors, and strong sense of community I found here made McIntire feel like the natural next step. I knew I wanted to build on the academic foundation I’d developed while also taking advantage of the graduate program’s professional resources. Plus, Charlottesville has become such a special place to me and my family, and I’m excited to spend another year here.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Accounting Program?

I’m looking forward to connecting with my classmates and professors on a deeper level, learning from their diverse perspectives, and tackling challenges together. I’m also eager to get involved in graduate student organizations and broaden my professional network.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

This year, I’m excited to continue embracing UVA traditions—from football tailgates in the fall to handing out candy at Trick-or-Treating on the Lawn. I’m also hoping to stay involved in local volunteer efforts, including Madison House’s Holiday Sharing Program, and explore new graduate-level organizations.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

While it’s still warm, I hope to spend more time outdoors, especially walking along the Monticello Trail and Humpback Rock. I also have a running list of Charlottesville restaurants I never got to try during undergrad—and I plan to work my way through it this year.
