Two McIntire Management Professors, Jeffrey Lovelace and Abbie Oliver, were recently named Best Reviewers by the Academy of Management Review and Academy of Management Journal, respectively, recognized for their important contributions to scholarship in two top academic journals in their field.
“I’m incredibly honored to be recognized as a best reviewer for the Academy of Management Review,” says Lovelace, who has been with the Commerce School since 2017 and became an Associate Professor with tenure in 2023. “This journal has been tremendously impactful on my own work, and it’s a privilege to contribute to the scholarly conversation by providing feedback to my peers. It’s a true pleasure to give back to a community that has given me so much.”
Lovelace (together with his co-authors, including Commerce Interim Dean Amanda Cowen) also received the 2025 Best Review Paper Award from the Journal of Management for “Metacritiques of Upper Echelons Theory: Verdicts and Recommendations for Future Research.”
Oliver, who joined McIntire in 2020 and has been published in Strategic Management Journal and Journal of Management, as well as in Academy of Management Journal, is likewise honored to receive the recognition for her contributions. “To me, reviewing is really about joining a scholarly conversation and being part of a community that advances our field together. It’s not just about evaluating papers—it’s about helping shepherd important research forward,” she explains.
“As a reviewer, you get this incredible window into what’s coming next, the cutting-edge work that will shape our field. And honestly, it’s made me a better researcher. When you’re reading others’ work closely, you think ‘Oh, I should consider this new method’ or ‘I see why this part is confusing for readers.’ It gives you empathy for the reviewers on your own papers and helps you see both sides of the process more clearly,” Oliver adds.
Join us in celebrating these well-deserved accolades for two outstanding members of McIntire’s dedicated faculty.
