Beloved McIntire Professor Carrie Heilman has been named to the second annual list of Top 50 Undergraduate Business Professors by business education website Poets&Quants for Undergrads.

Heilman, who has been teaching at the University since 2003, is perhaps best known for her strong guidance of the “Advertising and Promotions” course, a two-semester, nine-credit program for fourth-years; UVA teams have achieved great success under her leadership, winning the American Advertising Federation’s National Student Advertising Competition (NSAC) in 2016, taking third place in 2017, and second in 2018. Students credit their accomplishments to her high standards and legendary generosity with time outside of the classroom.

Nominations for the honor included comments that revealed students’ extraordinary regard for the “special mix of teamwork, real client interaction, and tremendous mentorship” in the class, noting that Heilman prepares them exceptionally well for their future careers.

“It is an honor and quite humbling to be recognized this way,” says Heilman. “I am simply thankful for the support I have received from Dean Zeithaml and my colleagues all of these years, and I am especially grateful to have had the opportunity to teach so many outstanding McIntire students during my time at the University.”

In addition to her commitment to “Promotions,” Heilman teaches the M.S. in Commerce “Brand Management” course, and as faculty athletics representative for the University, ensures that UVA student-athletes have their voices heard in the ACC and the NCAA.
