Iconic American consumer goods company Procter & Gamble recently gifted the McIntire School of Commerce $10,000 in support of its Commerce Cohort program.

Launched this past September with 31 first-year students of UVA’s Class of 2022, the Commerce Cohort provides a unique academic experience for prospective McIntire students from traditionally underrepresented groups. The innovative program offers unprecedented access to learning opportunities through mentorship, personal development, and business-related career preparation.

With this dedicated contribution from Procter & Gamble, the Cohort will have additional resources to specifically fund crucial classroom materials, experiential learning activities outside of the classroom, and invaluable networking opportunities with alumni and corporate executives.

As the curriculum features sessions on critical analysis, self-reflection, and communication conducted through a business lens, the Cohort reflects McIntire’s ongoing mission to create a more inclusive student community that encourages all members to succeed, grow, and learn from their peers.

Associate Dean for Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion Rebecca Locke Leonard, who serves as instructor for many of the sessions, says the Procter & Gamble funding is inspirational and will help build upon the Cohort’s early successes. “We are excited by the continued strong support of alumni, corporations, and friends of McIntire concerning this important recruitment effort. Our current class is flourishing in the program, and we are learning a great deal from each other.”
