Accounting Networking Night

Commerce Career Services will once again host McIntire’s Accounting Networking Night Wednesday, Sept. 4, 2019, providing undergraduate and graduate Accounting students alike the opportunity to meet with and begin learning about employment at professional services firms.

In advance of the event, set to take place in the School’s Rouss & Robertson Halls’ third floor art gallery, McIntire faculty member Roger Martin, KPMG Professor in Professional Accounting and Associate Dean for Academic Innovation, notes that the range of firms involved offers students a real advantage as they plan the next steps in their careers.

“I hope they will take time to learn about not only the firms they might have heard about already, but also about the many others that provide fantastic career opportunities,” Martin says. “With such a wide range in terms of size, service lines, geography, and more, students have access to an unbelievable set of firms, and this is a very efficient way to start that process.”

Ann Ramage, a CPA and Tax Partner at Glen Allen, VA-based firm Keiter, reflected on last fall’s visit as she looked forward to participating in the coming event. “Attending allowed us the opportunity to connect with recently declared Accounting undergraduates as well as incoming Accounting graduate students to begin a longer dialogue with them and to learn about their interests and what they are looking for in future employers,” she says. “It also gave us an opportunity to share how we believe Keiter—and the opportunities it offers—may match up with their plans.”

Commerce Career Services’ Jeannine Lawrie shared her team’s excitement about once again hosting the event that connects students with employers from the accounting industry. “This year, we have 17 firms participating, up from 12 last year,” she says. “Another new addition is a reception before the event that will allow our employer partners to network with Accounting faculty and McIntire staff members. We hope that students can learn about the vast array of career paths available to them and establish meaningful recruiting connections.”
