A groundswell of support from the McIntire community made for a successful GivingToHoosDay, the 24-hour period of online giving held the second Tuesday of April to celebrate the University of Virginia. In response to the 2019 campaign, 396 donors demonstrated their commitment to the Commerce School by donating $303,491, a total that surpassed the generosity of previous years.

The fourth annual edition of the day-long drive displayed the strength of the McIntire alumni network—both close to Grounds and around the world. Their gifts to the McIntire Annual Fund help to ensure McIntire’s ongoing ability to provide an exceptional student experience, retain and grow its dynamic faculty, and continue its renowned programmatic innovation. Of the gifts provided April 9, $125,000 came by way of matching funds, which included $50,000 matched from alumni currently in reunion years and $3,000 matched by alumni in Asia.

Alumni donors abroad rose to the occasion in Barbados, Hong Kong, India, Malaysia, Singapore, Taiwan, the United Arab Emirates, and the United Kingdom. McIntire gifts originating within the U.S. represented 23 states, with the largest amount of support deriving from donors in Virginia, New York, California, and North Carolina.

The Class of 2015 led the way with the most donors in a graduation year, at 19. Many graduates from the 1960s and 1970s participated, and every class between 1980 and 2018 had at least one donor.

“We are incredibly grateful to the nearly 400 alumni, parents, friends, and faculty and staff who supported McIntire on GivingToHoosDay,” says Nola Miller, McIntire’s Assistant Dean for Development & Alumni Engagement. “It was exciting to see donors from around the world come together to support the School. Their efforts truly exemplified the power of community and collective support that are so valued at McIntire.”
