McIntire’s Jeffrey Lovelace, Robert H. Schade Bicentennial Associate Professor and Director of the Commerce School’s pan-UVA Leadership Minor, has been selected by UVA Advancement’s Office of Engagement as a Distinguished Scholars Award recipient for the 2023-2024 fiscal year.
As part of the Office of Engagement’s many efforts to foster lifelong relationships with alumni, friends, families, fans, and community members; bolster their connections with the University; and keep them informed and invested in their UVA passions, the office annually honors remarkable faculty who volunteer their time throughout the year, recognizing standout professors with the Distinguished Scholars Award.
“I’m incredibly honored to receive the Distinguished Scholars Award from UVA’s Office of Engagement,” says Lovelace. “Being recognized alongside such talented and dedicated colleagues is both humbling and inspiring. I am grateful for the opportunity to contribute to UVA’s mission and to engage with such a vibrant network of individuals who share a passion for lifelong learning and growth.”
Lovelace, who teaches classes on leadership, power and influence, organizational change, and stakeholder management at the both undergraduate and graduate levels, has also run corporate education workshops for a variety of organizations in the public and private sectors. Having taught in a two-week program in July 2024 for American military personnel nearing completion of their service through UVA’s partnership with national nonprofit Warrior-Scholar Project, Lovelace also serves as an adviser for the UVA chapter of Student Veterans of America, as he served two tours in Iraq as an Intelligence Officer before completing his own military career in 2014.
This is not the first recognition for Lovelace, who has been an International Research Fellow for the Oxford University Centre for Corporate Reputation since 2020 and won the Network of Leadership Scholars and Exeter Centre for Leadership at University of Exeter Business School’s Rising Star Early Career Award in 2022.
Lovelace is joined by fellow Distinguished Scholars Award recipients Professor William Hitchcock, Corcoran Department of History, College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences; Macy Lenox, Special Adviser for Admission & Strategy, Office of Undergraduate Admission; Professor Elizabeth Hutton Turner, Department of Art, College and Graduate School of Arts & Sciences; and Professor Kimberly Whitler, Darden School of Business. The awardees will be honored at a reception in appreciation for their commitment.
