McIntire Professor and Director of the M.S. in Commerce Program Ira Harris recently weighed in on the current employment climate and challenges that recent graduates face for career resource website Zippia.
Joining a panel of experts that included professors and experts from 11 other universities, Harris fielded questions about the enduring impact of the coronavirus on graduates, identifying a good first job after college, and defining the technical skills that stand out to potential employers.
“As with any major economic or social occurrence, new graduates need to dig deep, draw from their inherent resilience, and be ready to potentially pivot,” Harris says, regarding the pandemic’s effect on the job market. “The impact of our current situation can hopefully be a positive one that encourages students to keep an open mind and broaden their understanding of career options and job functions.”
