Featuring a diverse lineup of gatherings ranging from captivating speakers and panels discussing critical and timely topics to enriching career preparation sessions for our students, many opportunities are available for esteemed alumni, corporate partners, parents, and friends to connect with Commerce.

Signature Events: McIntire’s Fall Forum

Old Cabell Hall Auditorium | Oct. 20

Highlighting a topic indelibly impacting commerce from every angle, and open to the entire Commerce School community, this year’s Fall Forum turns its attention to artificial intelligence, examining its promise, threats, and effects, with leading authority guest speakers and faculty experts. 

“The AI Revolution: Exploring Possibilities & Challenges” will take place in Old Cabell Hall Auditorium 10:30 a.m.-noon, with keynote speaker Zack Kass, Futurist and Technologist at OpenAI in San Francisco. The company’s innovative work has made headlines and caught the interest of many organizations such as Bain & Company that want to empower their capabilities in strategy and digital application delivery. 

After his keynote, Kass will join a discussion moderated by McIntire Professor Steven L. Johnson, alongside panelists Kent Collier (McIntire ’03), Founder and CEO of global credit market data provider Reorg, and Commerce Professors Dorothy Leidner and Sarah Lebovitz.

In the afternoon, McIntire’s Center for the Management of Information Technology will continue delving into the subject with the latest installment of its Knowledge Continuum, for an audience of executive professionals. Moderated by Professor Stefano Grazioli, the panel discussion will host practitioners presenting case examples of AIs current use in a variety of industries, including retail, healthcare, and education, as well as provide advice about navigating some of the challenges.

The PwC Center for Innovation in Professional Services will present “AI in Accounting” for students Sept. 27focusing on how forward-thinking accountancy firms are embracing AI and what the future looks like for the profession. 

UVA Center for Real Estate and the Built Environment: 2023 Conference

Darden School of Business | Nov. 10

Now in its second year, the UVA Center for Real Estate and the Built Environment will hold its 2023 Conference at the Darden School, bringing together UVA alumni, students, and industry leaders who are passionate about financial, political, and design connections that shape cities and societies.

Student Professional Development

The UVA Center for Real Estate and the Built Environment will also host a two-day training session Sept. 8-9 to introduce students to the ARGUS Enterprise (AE) software package used in many real estate investment firms. Students are invited to read more about and register for the event.

Tradition: Affinity and Nostalgia for Students and Alumni Alike

Kickball
North Grounds | Sept. 1

The beloved and, yes, competitive kickball game is once again scheduled for September. In this tradition for incoming McIntire students, teams representing their Integrated Core blocks take it to the kickball field to build relationships, have fun, and compete for bragging rights!
