Virginia Business has named Dean Nicole Thorne Jenkins as a notable Virginian you should get to know in 2021, in the magazine’s annual list of 100 people who make the commonwealth a more interesting and innovative place to live and work.
Jenkins, who took the helm at the Commerce School July 1, is one of 11 educators and administrators helping to preserve and grow Virginia’s reputation as the 2019 Top State for Business, as ranked by CNBC, which noted the state’s focus on education.
“There’s a gap between what you learn in the classroom and what you do day to day in business,” says the former Von Allmen Endowed Chair of Accountancy and Vice Dean at the University of Kentucky’s Gatton College of Business and Economics. She added that the pandemic is changing the ways business is being done. “Things are shifting. As the leading business school, we have to be responsive to that.”
