McIntire Dean Carl Zeithaml is the recipient of the 2016 Raven Award, in recognition of his outstanding service and contributions to the University of Virginia.

The Raven Society’s highest honor, the award is presented by the Society annually in recognition of students, professors, administrators, and alumni who demonstrate excellence in their scholarly contributions and dedication to University ideals. Nominated faculty and administrators must distinguish themselves in several fields of service, including teaching, scholarly or creative activities, administration, and contributions to student life and interests. They must also have been employed full-time by the University, as faculty or administrators, for at least 10 years.

“Dean Zeithaml’s many contributions to the McIntire School, the University, student life, and the Commonwealth make him eminently qualified to receive the Raven award,” says Marketing Professor and Raven Society member Lucien Bass, who has been deeply involved in University life for more than five decades. “It is with great pleasure that the Raven Society acknowledges Dean Zeithaml’s steadfast commitment to the University community.”

Founded in 1904, The Raven Society is the oldest and most prestigious honorary society at the University of Virginia. Unique to the University, the Society takes its name in honor of the most famous poem of the University’s most famous poet, Edgar Allan Poe. The Society began presenting the Raven Award in 1933.
