Student Testimonials: Our Favorite Fall Classes

The University of Virginia M.S. in Accounting students finished up their fall semester of classes. One thing students appreciate about the Program’s curriculum is that it goes beyond developing accounting skills and focuses on developing the skills needed to be a successful business professional. We don’t just focus on crunching numbers, but also learn about data analytics, business communication, and teamwork.

One thing students appreciate about the Program’s curriculum is that it goes beyond developing accounting skills and focuses on developing the skills needed to be a successful business professional. We don’t just focus on crunching numbers, but also learn about data analytics, business communication, and teamwork. We connected with a few students recently, and they dished to us about their favorite class from the semester.

Ameera Choudhury
Undergrad: George Mason University
Favorite Class: Accounting Policy
“This class identifies how problems may arise with changes to the accounting standards. For future accountants, it is a great class to gain a basic understanding of how companies try to take advantage of certain standards to obtain a financial reporting benefit rather than reflecting on the economics as the standards intend.”

Tony Gu
Undergrad: University of California – Santa Cruz
Favorite Class: Financial Statement Analysis
“Professor Yu taught me how to forecast stock prices for a company. We worked on a single company all semester from identifying the business strategy to analyzing solvency. Overall, this class improved my presentation skills, and helped me gain a better understanding of the valuation process.”

Maggie Hu
Undergrad: University of Wisconsin-Madison
Favorite Class: Data Management and Analytics for Accountants
“This class deepened my understanding of the fundamentals of database system design and querying using SQL. This class taught me how to apply technical skills to a business problem as we built a database from scratch to enhance the decision making capabilities of a company.”

June Jiang
Undergrad: Indiana University – Bloomington
Favorite Class: Leading for Success in the Accounting Profession
“This class will really benefit me in my future profession as I learned important people skills through class lectures and teamwork. Professor Roberts also gave me a lot of useful feedback to help me improve my communication and writing skills.”
