CIFM Professional Speaker Series – Fall Semester 2024

September 06, 2024

The Center for Investors and Financial Markets (CIFM) Professional Speaker Series engages finance professionals and policymakers—including McIntire alumni and employers—to bring professionals into the classroom so students and researchers can get a closer look at practice.  The Center typically hosts 2-3 speaker events each semester aimed at UVA students interested in pursuing a career in finance.

To open the fall 2024 semester, the Center welcomed Tommy McBride, CFP®, CIMA®, CPWA®, CAP®, Managing Director at Merrill Lynch Wealth Management & McBride Associates, for a talk at the McIntire School on Wednesday evening, August 28th with our M.S. in Commerce Finance Track students. Tommy is a long-time supporter of the Commerce School, advising students on future careers in wealth management and investing, as well as providing us with a School-wide Barron’s subscription.

On Friday, September 6th, the series featured Alexander Goodman, Founding Partner of Clockwork, a digital investment management firm that offers services and technology to investors and management teams to streamline operations and increase investment efficiency. Alex discussed how the alternative asset space is evolving and the growing opportunities for startups.

The final event in the series featured Andy Simonoff, Managing Director, Chief Strategy and Transformation Officer at Voya Investment Management. Andy partners with the CIOs and senior leadership team to optimize Voya’s business from a strategic, financial and operational standpoint.  His visit on October 28th included an engaging discussion on thriving in today’s asset management world.
