Since 2008, the McIntire School of Commerce’s M.S. in Commerce Program, a one-year master’s in management with an innovative curriculum that prepares students for today’s marketplace, has helped recent graduates gain tangible business skills and launch exciting and fulfilling careers. Through the program’s Integrated Core Experience, students are exposed to all business areas and learn the crucial soft and hard professional skills needed to succeed in their future careers. In their second semester, students specialize in an area of business, historically, finance, business analytics, or marketing and management, until a new fourth track in Biotechnology welcomed its first cohort in fall 2022. The new track is specifically designed for Life Sciences and Engineering majors interested in preparing for a career at the intersection of science and business and solving complex societal challenges.

The track is led by Professor Nikki Hastings, an operations biotech executive and entrepreneurial ecosystem builder with over 15 years of experience with early-stage biotech/medtech and medical device companies. Professor Hastings is an incredible asset to the students and the ever-growing biotech industry in Charlottesville, VA.
