What was your most memorable class?
My most memorable classes were Financial Statement Analysis & Valuation with Professor Julia Yu and Accounting Policy with Professor Craig Lefanowicz. Professor Yu is very passionate about the subject. She is extremely kind to her students and wants to see them succeed, but she is also unafraid to tell you what you need to hear. Professor Lefanowicz is one of the best lecturers I’ve ever had and can make any complicated material easy to understand and learn.

Did you take advantage of Commerce Career Services (CCS) and how did they help you in the job search?
Absolutely. I contacted Katie Kinniburgh, Assistant Director for Career Development, a couple of weeks before class started, and I found out just how unprepared I was. I did not know what I did not know. She helped me immensely with resumes, cover letters, LinkedIn, networking in general, Handshake, and the recruiting process as a whole. She sat down with me almost a month before the semester started and the work ramped up, and I could not be more grateful.

Have you been able to leverage your UVA degree or network on the job?
Yes, the partner I’m currently working under is a UVA grad. I have also been able to do a couple networking events at McIntire.

What do you enjoy most about your job?
I love the company culture. Every person I have gotten to work with and meet within the firm is a hard-working and ambitious individual.

What advice do you have for future students in the program?
First—be prepared. It may be overwhelming at first, but it is going to be worth it in the end. Second—network, network, network.

How has McIntire prepared you for professional success?
McIntire has helped in every way. It helped with my technical skills for sure, but the emphasis on soft skills is what separates McIntire. How you work with others and whether people see you as someone they want to work with are massive factors in being successful. McIntire truly helped me to become a better well-rounded business professional.

What is your favorite Charlottesville activity?
Hiking. My favorite trail was Sugar Hollow, where you can see natural waterfalls.

What is your place to eat in Charlottesville?
Roots or Riverside! But it’s a tough call since there are so many incredible restaurants in Charlottesville.

What do you do in your spare time?
Reading is one of my favorite hobbies.
