Center for Real Estate Hosts Networking Reception in Charlotte

October 08, 2025

On Wednesday, October 8, 2025, the White Ruffin Byron Center for Real Estate welcomed UVA students, alumni, and friends to its first-ever Charlotte, NC, networking reception at the beautiful Myers Park Country Club. Held in the Mecklenburg Room, the evening offered a warm and lively atmosphere for connection between current students and real estate professionals.

A highlight of the event was a multifamily markets update and discussion featuring:

  • Dean Smith (A&S ’94) – Vice Chairman of Multifamily Capital Markets, Newmark
  • Peter Pappas – CEO, Terwilliger Pappas
  • Dwight Dunton (McIntire ’96) – Founder, CEO & CIO, Bonaventure

Together, the panel shared their perspectives on the evolving multifamily landscape, touching on trends in capital markets, development, and demand drivers shaping the Charlotte metro and broader southeast region. Their conversation offered attendees valuable context on how growth, migration, and investment patterns continue to influence one of the nation’s most dynamic real estate markets.

The reception also served as a meaningful opportunity for alumni to reconnect, meet new peers, and strengthen professional ties within the UVA real estate community. A select number of current undergraduate and graduate students were invited to apply and attend the reception, submitting questions for the panelists, and having their resumes included in a resume book shared with the attendees following the reception.

The Center extends its sincere gratitude to Cambridge Properties, Inc. and FCA Partners for generously sponsoring the event and helping make the evening possible.
