What inspired you to pursue graduate study in global commerce, and what are your goals for the program?

After graduating from undergrad in 2023, I spent two years interning and working in international development and strategy consulting, where I collaborated with global organizations on issues like gender equity, economic inclusion, and sustainability. That experience reinforced how interconnected today’s challenges are, and how vital it is to understand business within a global and cross-cultural context. The M.S. in Global Commerce felt like the natural next step for me: a chance to build hard business skills while learning how to navigate cultural and market differences. My goal is to graduate with the ability to bridge business, policy, and social impact in ways that create more inclusive growth worldwide.

What courses or topics in global commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?

I’m most excited for courses that explore global strategy, cross-cultural management, and business in the digital age. I’m also especially looking forward to the Berlin module, where I can connect my German-American background to learning about European business models and the role of policy in shaping markets.

What drew you to the M.S. in Global Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?

I was drawn to McIntire because it combines rigorous academics with immersive global experience. The opportunity to study in three countries, alongside a diverse international cohort, really stood out to me as unique. It’s rare to find a program that doesn’t just talk about global business, but actually puts you in the middle of it. I was also impressed by McIntire’s emphasis on collaboration, innovation, and leadership.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Global Commerce Program?

I’m most excited about the people and perspectives. This program brings together classmates from all over the world, and I know those daily interactions, whether in class discussions, team projects, or even over dinner, will be as valuable as the coursework. I’m also looking forward to pushing myself outside my comfort zone, building a strong foundation in global business, and finding new ways to connect to my passion for inclusive development.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

I’m especially excited about the service and leadership opportunities at UVA and how easy it is to connect with the local community through the University’s network. One of my ongoing passions is teaching English to refugees and immigrants, and I’ve already found several ways to continue that work here in Charlottesville. Being able to combine my academic experience with meaningful community engagement is something I really value.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

I’m looking forward to exploring the Corner and Charlottesville’s local food scene, which I’ve heard is amazing. Finding fun spaces to study or relax with friends will be an important part of making Charlottesville feel like home.
