What inspired you to pursue graduate study in global commerce, and what are your goals for the program?

I was inspired to pursue graduate study in global commerce given the exciting opportunity to spend time in Charlottesville and Berlin while obtaining a world-class business education. I was born in Spain, my mother is from Ecuador, and my girlfriend is from France. Given my international background, I was interested in viewing everything that I had learned during undergrad with a global lens. I am interested in pursuing a career in finance (private equity or venture capital) in Europe after graduation, and I believe that this program will prepare me for those goals.

What courses or topics in global commerce are you most excited to explore during the program?

I am very excited for the Global Challenges: Commerce in Context course. We will discuss crucial and relevant topics, and I believe that these discussions will provide me with a more informed perspective of the international business world. Additionally, I am very excited for Negotiation at ESMT. I believe that negotiating is a crucial skill in business, and an area that I haven’t had much exposure to.

What drew you to the M.S. in Global Commerce Program at UVA McIntire?

I matriculated at the University of Virginia for undergraduate study in 2020. However, at the last minute, I decided to attend the U.S. Naval Academy instead. However, I always felt that Charlottesville kept calling me. I was drawn to the Global Commerce program specifically, given the study abroad and Social Impact Project (SIP) components of the program, and I believe there’s nowhere better to pursue this than at UVA McIntire.

What are you most looking forward to as you begin the M.S. in Global Commerce Program?

I am most looking forward to building a global network. I am looking forward to living in three different and culturally rich places during the academic program, while establishing and nurturing lifelong friendships.

What extracurriculars, clubs, or activities are you hoping to get involved with during your time here?

Despite our short time in Charlottesville, I am planning to be as involved as possible. I am particularly excited about joining the University Salsa Club, the Spanish Running Club, and Madison House.

What’s one place in Charlottesville (or on Grounds) you’re most excited to visit or explore?

I am excited to continue exploring all the restaurants in Charlottesville. I interned at CornerStone Partners over the summer and had the opportunity to explore incredible restaurants. So far, my favorites are Tavola and Orzo. And who could forget a bagel from Bodo’s.
