What is your motivation for pursuing an M.S. in MIT?

I chose the M.S. in the Management of IT to build on my experience and create new opportunities through networking and learning. I wanted to gain more IT knowledge, and I felt formal education was a better fit for that than certification programs.

What led you to UVA’s M.S. in MIT Program?

I chose the M.S. in Management of IT Program for several reasons:
Prior to applying to UVA, I explored several graduate programs at both the doctorate and master’s levels. After reviewing my options, I applied exclusively to the UVA MSMIT program. Below are the reasons for my choice:
• Flexible hybrid structure, providing in-person experience while maintaining flexibility
• Emphasis on interactive, classroom-style learning rather than being fully virtual or video-based
• Opportunities to hear from industry speakers
• Option to attend a class in Argentina
• Diversity of companies represented by students, highlighting the program’s relevance to my work
• One-year format
• Current and future networking opportunities
• UVA’s strong academic reputation

What is your favorite and/or the most valuable aspect(s) of the residencies?

The most valuable aspect of the residences is the opportunity to connect with my cohort, and gaining insights from their diverse jobs and experiences. Interacting with professors in person adds another layer of value that online classes cannot replicate. The hybrid format strikes the perfect balance—allowing for in-person engagement one weekend a month, which is easy to plan for, while also offering the flexibility of attending classes via Zoom from anywhere.

How has the M.S. in MIT Program complemented your work experience?

The MSMIT program has helped me improve proposal writing and client communication while giving me a deeper understanding of key concepts. It has also reinforced knowledge from my MBA program that I had not used recently, making it more applicable to my current work.

What is the most practical concept or skill you have learned so far?

The cybersecurity section has been the most impactful for my work. It has provided me with the skills to interpret and create network designs and a deeper understanding of strategies to safeguard a company against cyber threats. These insights have improved my ability to contribute meaningfully to projects and collaborate more effectively with my team.

How have you been able to integrate the program into your professional responsibilities and personal commitments?

I have integrated the program into my professional and personal life by carefully planning my study time around other commitments. I often study early in the morning before anyone else is awake or later in the evening. Before starting the program, I set clear expectations with my family to ensure everyone was prepared for the time commitment. Additionally, I use tools that allow me to listen to readings while driving or waiting for appointments, making the most of any available time.

What is your best piece of advice for prospective students?

My best advice for prospective students is to recognize that while there are some sacrifices during the year, the knowledge and skills you gain make it well worth the effort. Time management is crucial—if you stay organized and plan well, you can balance your responsibilities without missing important events. The one-year commitment is a small tradeoff for earning the degree and gaining valuable insights that will benefit you long term.

What are your interests and hobbies?

I enjoy staying active, with tennis being my favorite hobby, along with most outdoor athletic activities. These activities are a great way to unwind and take my mind off work or school.
