As the new academic year approaches, we are thrilled to share that the Virginia Society of Certified Public Accountants (VSCPA) recently awarded five incoming UVA McIntire M.S. in Accounting students with scholarships from their educational foundation.

What is the VSCPA?

Established in 1909, the VSCPA’s mission is to empower CPAs to thrive. With nearly 13,000 members across the state of Virginia, including professionals in public accounting, corporate finance, government, and education, the VSCPA plays a crucial role in promoting excellence in the accounting profession.

To be considered for the 2023 VSCPA scholarship, students must have completed a minimum of three credit hours in accounting, at least a GPA of 2.7 or higher, and be currently enrolled or plan to attend an accredited Virginia college or university in the fall 2023 semester with a committment to earning their CPA license. Scholarship applicants must also be a member of the Virginia Society of CPAs, which offers free membership for students.

McIntire’s VSCPA Scholarship Recipients

The following incoming M.S. in Accounting students were awarded four different VSCPA scholarships:

  • Mary Mocek has been awarded the CST Group Scholarship
  • Deborah Okai has been awarded the FORVIS Scholarship
  • Kale Benyo has been awarded the VSCPA Minority Scholarship
  • Kevina Johnson has been awarded the Thomas M. Berry Jr. Scholarship
  • William Masselli has also been awarded the Thomas M. Berry Jr. Scholarship

Celebrating Accounting Excellence Across Virginia

The VSCPA’s Foundation awarded a total of $61,500 to 27 deserving college students this summer who are studying accounting at the undergraduate, graduate, and doctoral levels at accredited institutions across the Commonwealth of Virginia.

Students were selected based on academic performance, entry essays, faculty recommendations, and extracurricular activities. Recipients of the awarded scholarships are enrolled in or entering an accounting program with the goal of earning a CPA license.

Congratulations to Deborah, Mary, Kale, Kevina, and William! We look forward to having you join us this fall semester!
