Synopsis

Linda Pittenger presented “The Changing Profile of the IT Leader” – Recruiting, Selecting and Developing the Best.   The presentation focused on how the role of the IT organization has changed and what impact this has had on the types of IT leaders required to assure business success. Ms. Pittenger discussed the changing profile of the IT organization, the responsibilities of the IT leader, the differences between IT managers/leaders, and what competencies are required for success. Ideas were shared for making the cultural shift to recruiting, selecting and developing an “adaptable” leader.  After lunch, Ms. Pittenger facilitated a panel discussion titled “Global Workforce Planning.”

Questions of the panelists centered around how best to encourage best practices, knowledge sharing, and thought leadership.

Speakers

Augie Campos-Marquetti is an innovative executive with expertise in IT recruitment. Mr. Campos-Marquetti has designed and deployed innovative nationally recognized campus and lateral recruitment programs in the financial services industry. Based in NYC, he is Director of IT Global Workforce Planning for Credit Suisse’s IT Division of over 10,000 employees. His responsibilities include developing and implementing the strategy and operations for lateral and campus recruitment. He manages the governance of the employee internal mobility and career development processes. He is the Chief Architect of the IT Jobs Framework, which consists of 11 competency based job families, the foundation for all of the IT human resource applications. Prior to this, Mr. Campos-Marquetti was Senior Vice President and Staffing Office Director for CitiGroup. In this position, he managed the procurement of technology consultants. He developed and implemented a low cost, off-shoring strategy, and was responsible for all of their IT recruitment and development programs. AT CitiGroup and Credit Suisse he has received national recognition for pioneering unique college apprentice programs.  Previous to his HR experience, a large part of Augie’s career was spent in IT. He was Technology Chief of Staff for CitiGroup’s Investment Bank, managing operations for a 450 person IT organization. He held positions implementing a System Development Life Cycle (SDLC), data warehouse for pricing and indicative information, Decision Support System to track market share of global deals. Roles included Business Systems Analyst, Product Developer, Systems Project Leader, and Project Manager for companies such as Sapient, Chase Manhattan Bank, Prodigy, and Merrill Lynch.  Mr. Campos –Marquetti holds a BS in Computer Science from Pace University. He lives in NYC with his wife and daughter. Augie enjoys sky diving and this month completed the NYC Marathon.

Joe Miller joined Philip Morris, U.S.A. at their Richmond, VA location in 1992. For much of his career at PM USA, he has worked in the Information Services department but has also held positions in Trade Marketing and Manufacturing Operations Logistics departments. His assignments and responsibilities in Information Services have included:

  • IT Services Sourcing and Procurement
  • Organizational training and recruiting
  • Business Relationship Management (IS Account Director)

Most recently, Joe was appointed to the position of IS Account Director supporting Research, Development & Engineering functions and new product initiatives.  Joe has a Chemical Engineering degree from Virginia Tech and an MBA from the Darden School at the University of Virginia. He has served in the US Navy as a nuclear submarine warfare officer and later as an intelligence officer. He retired from the US Naval Reserves in 2001. Joe has been married for 24 years to Carol, has two children, one who is attending the University of Virginia. He is an avid boater, fisherman and home handyman.

Previously, Linda was Vice President and Managing Director of Hay Group’s Information Technology Practice. As founder, Linda conceptualized and built this North American Practice. As a Senior Executive, Linda participated in all decisions regarding strategic direction and business development for Hay North America. As practice Leader, Linda led the development of this consulting business with clients such as; Citibank, IBM, MIT, Bell Atlantic, DuPont, Goldman Sachs, First Union and Occidental Chemical.  Linda joined Hay from AT&T, where she held several key assignments. As CIO, Sales and Marketing Technology Solutions, Linda was responsible for ensuring technological superiority of AT&T’s sales and marketing organizations. Linda directed the transformation and migration of legacy systems to a new technology platform. She delivered industry leading sales, marketing, and executive information systems for over 8,000 sales and 14,300 marketing personnel, supporting over $35B in revenue. Linda led over 900 people (300 members of Bell laboratories), and managed an expense and capital budget of over $400M.

Linda also was Director, Human Resources for AT&T’s Network Group. She managed human resources strategic planning, labor relations, cultural transformation, and technical training for over 17,000 employees. She was the recipient of the AT&T HR Leader of the Year Award. Linda implemented several programs that exceeded benchmark standards and directly impacted AT&T winning the Malcolm Baldridge Award.  As Director of Finance, Linda was instrumental in the financial turnaround of an AT&T inbound telemarketing business, as well as launched a new business unit that resulted in $20M in revenues. She has also held sales and marketing positions with Xerox and the Southland Corporation.

Linda completed Wharton’s Advanced Management Program and has a BS in Psychology and Sociology and an MBA from Jacksonville University. She serves as a Trustee for the Bridgewater-Raritan Education Foundation.

Ray Schmidt joined the PCAOB in January 2003 as Chief Information Officer, taking responsibility for the design, development and deployment of the Board’s internal Information Technology and the direction of the PCAOB’s Information Technology strategy. Prior to joining the PCAOB, Mr. Schmidt was Corporate Enterprise Manager for RS Information Systems of McLean, Va., a federal contractor providing information technology and engineering services. Mr. Schmidt also held several management positions within the corporate Information Technology group at business intelligence technology firm MicroStrategy and the company’s Strategy.com business unit. Prior to MicroStrategy, Mr. Schmidt held both technical and management positions with E-Systems (now a Raytheon company) and began his career at Control Data Corp.

Sandy Williamson founded CapTech Ventures, Inc. with Slaughter Fitz-Hugh in March of 1997 when he realized that the new emerging technologies were beginning to revolutionize information technology environments and lead to E-Business opportunities. As the CEO, Mr. Williamson is responsible for setting the strategy of the firm, defining and executing the business and marketing plans, and leading the sales, partnership channel and new business development initiatives. Mr. Williamson continues to manage several client engagements and conducts periodic quality assurance assessments of the firm’s large E-Business projects.   Prior to founding CapTech, Mr. Williamson was a manager with a regional consulting firm where he was the Project Manager for several Internet banking and information technology planning engagements at a large regional financial institution. Mr. Williamson was a Manager of MSO Development at Trigon Blue Cross Blue Shield where he held a number of positions in which he helped develop strategic systems to support interactive transactions with physicians. He was also a Senior Consultant at Andersen Consulting. Mr. Williamson started his career with a commercial bank. He has extensive experience in managing and leading systems development initiatives for banking and health care concerns. Mr. Williamson holds a BA in Economics and Political Science from the University of North Carolina and an MBA in Finance from American University.
